Ingredients are laced with memories, relationships, the lands we’re rooted in, this moment.
What would it mean to gather at a table and get to know each other by sharing the ingredients that shape us?

Why a potluck?
To attend a potluck is to be open to finding connections between ingredients, flavors, and traditions that we might not usually think of as compatible. In this free workshop, we will create something unexpected together as the guests at a potluck do when they assemble their dishes. Come ready to listen, share, and make connections between your ingredient and those you’ll learn about from other guests.
The Gathering
We will:
Each explore an ingredient that is meaningful to us through generative writing. I will provide a variety of prompts to help you come up with an ingredient or explore an ingredient you’ve already thought of before the workshop.
Share our ingredient and its story with each other.
Zine-making
Then:
We will fill loose blank pages with unexpected connections in the shape of recipes, a poem, sentence fragments, drawings, collage, something else! All inspired by the ingredients we have each brought to the table and our conversation.
After the workshop, I’ll gather our creations into a zine that will serve as a record of our time together.
All attendees will receive a copy of the zine a few weeks after the workshop.
What should I bring?
I’ll be providing pencils, pens, markers, colors, clippings for collage , glue, erasers, and related items.
A willingness to spend time with new people, as you might at a street food stand, and share in our love of food. You’re welcome to bring any materials you’re willing to share with others, too.
